Appalachian Outdoors is having their Outdoor Expo this Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11 at 123 S. Allen St., State College, PA.

Appalachian Outdoors is having their Outdoor Expo on Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11. Here's an excerpt from their site:

"Saturday will continue our tradition of bringing in our experts representing over 30 of our vendors. Sunday, April 11, is the bonus day of our Outdoor Expo. We have ten different activities set up in which you can participate, most of which are FREE. You can go on one of two trail rides, climb the Alpine Tower at Stone Valley, hike the trails and beautify the area as you go, or make your way to a local crag and climb to your heart's desire. Complete details will be listed on our site as they become available."

Going Local: Webster's Bookstore & Cafe - 50% Sale and a Coupon

I plan to do a series of posts called "Going Local." I did one 2 weeks ago about Way Fruit Farm (read it HERE). I'll visit local establishments in the State College, PA area and find a way to tie in savings. I believe in saving money but I also want to support local businesses so I am hoping to find a "happy" medium. Alright, on to my current post...

It was a wonderful sunny day in Happy Valley. I loved seeing the blue sky! I had some time to walk around downtown State College this morning.  Did I visit any shops or dining establishments? Well, I 've heard great things about Webster's Bookstore & Cafe, so I decided to finally check the place out. If you love BOOKS - love to read, collect, or just look through books - this is the place for you! Even better is if you love to drink coffee or tea.

*Webster's Bookstore Café is a general used bookstore. They offer a full line of coffee and espresso drinks, teas, and delicious desserts. They deal with local vendors whenever possible.*

I walked through the whole bookstore. Before leaving, I bought myself a double shot Vanilla Latte using a "Webster's coupon - $1 off any specialty drink."  The coupon is from Happy Valley SuddenValues. Going Local: Adventures at a Fruit Farm and some FREE Pie & Cider

I started out this morning thinking about what my family should do for the day. I knew about Auntie Anne's Free Pretzel Day. I pondered what else?...then recalled my kids asking me several times this past week "When are we going to the fruit farm?...I really want some apples" By "fruit farm" they meant Way Fruit Farm. Hmm, free pretzels or apples. How could I say no to the healthy choice my kids were excited about?! I decided to check my email remembering I got a message yesterday from Way Fruit Farm. I wanted to see what kinds of apples they had available. Also, the email mentioned "if you come check out our new fireplace in the cafe this weekend and bring a copy of this email, you'll receive a free slice of pie and cup of cider to enjoy by the fire." This part of the email was an unexpected bonus!

So, off we went to the "fruit farm."  My kids love this place. It's almost like an adventure for them. Maybe, it's seeing all the apples. One of my daughters really wanted peaches. Of course, peaches are not in season. Not to worry, she got it in the form of some FREE pie.

The email offer stated the limit was 2 per group. But, the people at Way Fruit Farm were so kind and insisted on giving all of us - my 3 kids, my husband, and myself - each a piece of free pie.  So we got 3 apples pies, 1 walnut apple pie, and 1 peach pie. YUM! The kids got cold apple cider and us grown ups got hot cider. WOW, we enjoyed this! The cafe is wonderful and their apple cider is the best!!!

We left there buying loads of apples and also some apple cider. We couldn't resist Way Fruit Farm's own delicious apple cider!
